SANTA BARBARA, CA (16 April, 2004) CHK America, specialists in the visual communication of passenger information, have been assigned a third project for the Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority to design 265 At Stop information panels. That announcement was made today by Frederick A. Wood, President and CEO, CHK America.

The At Stop Panels are being designed for the most active stops outside of downtown Nashville and will include a map of the route and time-point specific schedule information. The panels will be placed at over 500 stops along Nashville’s 40-line system. This third project utilizes the same design, format and color-coded routes of CHK’s previous projects for Nashville MTA-a System-Wide Map and 40 pocket-sized line guides-to deliver consistent passenger information across this new tier of the agency’s communications campaign.

“We are extremely pleased that MTA has continued to adopt CHK’s strategy to provide consistent information to passengers across these three key products,” said Wood. “It is vital that passengers have access to clear and consistent information both at the planning and during the on-the-go stages of their journey to ensure that they understand the services available to them.”

“We have been extremely impressed with the quality of the work that has been completed for us by the CHK America team as we continue to make the many improvements to our transportation system,” Nashville MTA Chief Executive Officer Paul Ballard said. “It is absolutely necessary that we provide accurate information in a more ‘reader-friendly’ format to our customers so they will know how to catch the right bus and the right time. CHK is helping us accomplish this.”

Established in September 1999, CHK America provides passenger information solutions to the public transportation industry, in addition to delivering cartographic products and services across other business sectors. CHK America, a division of United Kingdom based Cook, Hammond and Kell, was established to expand the reach of its parent company’s products across the US. CHK’s products and services have been distributed extensively across Europe for over 140 years. Other companies in the group include Cook, Hammond and Kell, FWT Studios, Oxford Cartographers, National Map Center London, National Map Center Dublin.

Through its transportation network of 40 local and express routes, the Nashville MTA provides public transportation services to citizens and visitors within the Metropolitan Nashville area. The agency also has contracts with the Regional Transportation Authority to run bus service to three areas outside of Davidson County and provides special door-to-door paratransit services for people with disabilities and those who are unable to ride the local and express buses through its AccessRide program.
