CHK America has announced it has been awarded the design/build contract for the customer information and hardware for The T’s new East Lancaster Enhanced Bus Corridor (EBC) service.

There will be 57 stops along the new EBC route, of which 38 will have new solar powered, backlit information panels and hardware. The hardware will be comprised of multi-paneled kiosks and 31 backlit bus stop poles.

The custom designs for The T will include neighborhood maps, schedule information and simple-to-understand route schematics identifying where a customer is within the system, estimated travel times to onward destinations, critical connection information, and clearly presented schedules. The hardware and customer information will be purpose-built for The T and are due to be installed on the streets later this year.

Rick Wood, President and CEO of CHK America, believes that The T is undertaking one of the largest solar powered fabrication projects to date in public transportation. “This project provides a great example to the rest of the industry of how to use green technology,” Wood said. “By using solar powered hardware as an integral part of their customer information efforts, The T is combining best practices in both information design and fabrication methods.”
