March 31, 2014 — CHK America CEO, Rick Wood announced today that they have been awarded the bus stop improvement contract by the Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) in Virginia. The three-tiered project will include redesigning the information for more than 2,000 stops throughout the GRTC system.

CHK America will use its Best Practice approach to customer information design to create a wayfinding signage program consisting of three levels of information distribution. Tier one incorporates stops that are hubs for routes and connections making them the busiest stops with the most complex level information to communicate. While all tiers will receive stop-specific service information, tiers two and three represent stops that are less complex and will require fewer products to accurately communicate the at-stop service. “CHK America has been fortunate to work with GRTC for more than five years,” stated CHK America CEO, Rick Wood. “It is not only a world class transportation system serving every sector of the Richmond region, it’s also one of the oldest continually operating transit agencies in the United States. This project reflects yet another forward-thinking step by GRTC to provide the best communication tools for its customers“

GRTC holds an historic spot in American transportation having operated continuously, with one temporary suspension of service during the Civil War, for over 150 years. Founded in 1860, it was also the first public transit agency to implement the system wide use of electric streetcars. That progressive attitude continues today, with service improvements and additions such as expanded services for seniors and individuals with disabilities, welfare-to-work transportation, vanpool and carpool development, regional taxicab oversight, and expanded service to surrounding counties and cities. CHK America’s best practices in wayfinding transportation design are a natural fit for GRTC.
